Dances Taught At Camelot Dance Studio

Basic Social – Dance forms or dance style, where sociability and socializing are the primary focus of the dancing.  Many social dances are partner dances, as well as other social dances as circle dances, lines dances, novelty dances, or simply club dancing in solo.

Waltz – A Ballroom dance in ¾ time.  The Waltz first developed in Vienna as a rapid paced dance to the Strauss music of the time.  Over time it evolved into the slower version danced today.

Foxtrot – The Foxtrot is a smooth dance.  In 1913 Harry Fox first introduced the Foxtrot to the public.   It is  noted for being the first dance to incorporate into the rhythm a combination of Slows and Quicks.  Foxtrot is characterized by smooth, walking-style movements, but can be adapted to fit a variety of musical tempi and style, or to fit onto small, crowded nightclub dance floors.

Cha Cha – The Cha Cha is a thrilling, syncopated Latin dance first developed in the 1950’s.  It is characterized as a slowed-down Mambo, and gets its name from its distinct repetitive foot rhythm.

East Coast Swing – Deriving from the Lindy Hop and Jitterbug, the East Coast swing makes use of advanced ballroom technique.

Bolero – Originated as one of two forms of the Rumba, the Bolero is a slow Latin dance.  It shares many of the same styles as the Rumba but differs in style and tempo of movement and music.

Mambo – Originating in Cuba, the Mambo was first brought to the United States during the 40’s and 50’s.  The Mambo is similar to the Salas and places an emphasis on the second beat in a measure.

Samba –  Adopted for modern Ballroom dancing the Samba is a rhythmical Brazilian dance in 2/4 time.

Paso Doble –A dramatic French-Spanish Flamenco-style march danced in 2/4 time, with man portraying the matador in a bullfight, the lady as his cape.  Paso Doble is usually danced to Espaata Cani, the Spanish Gypsy Dance.
